A New York-based rating agency recently rated S & P Canadian Standard Life Insurance Companies in Canada and London Life Insurance Companies from AAA to AA +; the same assessment of North American life insurers from A grade dropped to A- grade. S & P called itself a downgrade of Canadian life insurers because profits fell less than the previous three years, while for London life insurers it was thought the company lacked the ability to diversify its operations in the Canadian market. For North American life insurers, S & P considers this to be the company affected by the Canadian market downturn, which, as a result, had to sell its trust.
