Objective To understand the distribution of blood pressure among adult residents in Hebei Province and its relationship with common chronic diseases and provide basis for disease prevention and treatment. Methods A retrospective survey was conducted on a database of risk factors related to chronic diseases among adult residents in Hebei Province in 2004. The survey adopted a multistage random sampling method and the samples were representative of Hebei Province. Results The rates of hypertension, prehypertension, hypotension and normotension were 39.6%, 38.8%, 3.2% and 18.4%, respectively. The standardization rates were 28.4%, 41.0%, 5.3% and 25.2% respectively. Hypertension, prehypertension, hypotension, the prevalence of different characteristics of hypertension and bone and joint disease, cervical and lumbar disease, cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, obesity, central obesity, increased risk of diabetes and hyperlipidemia, OR values were 1.7,1.4,3.4,4.7,3.2,1.9,3.4,1.8; prehypertensive so that bone and joint disease, cervical and lumbar diseases, respiratory diseases, cardiovascular disease, obesity, central obesity, hyperlipidemia OR increased by 1.5, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 1.7, 1.5 and 2.0, respectively. Hypotension had little effect on common chronic diseases. Conclusion The prevalence of hypertension in Hebei Province is higher than the national average, and the prevalence of hypotension is lower than the national average. The characteristics of prevalence of hypertension, prehypertension and hypotension are different. Control of hypertension and prehypertension can reduce the incidence of common chronic diseases occur.
