一安岳县属资阳市,位于四川盆地中部丘陵地带,东依重庆潼南县,北接遂宁市中区,西连本市雁江区、乐至县,南邻内江东兴区。地跨涪江、沱江两江流域。境内现有古代石刻造像70多处,是四川石刻造像地点最多的县。卧佛院位于跑马滩水库边,所在地属安岳县八庙乡卧佛村七、八社,与遂宁东禅乡相邻,是我国南方石刻佛经规模最大的一处,同时还有造像和墓塔等丰富佛教内容(图一)。对卧佛院的调查始于20世纪80年代,发表的资料都相对比较简单,其中彭家胜《四川安岳卧佛院调查》和李良、邓之金《安岳卧佛院窟群总目》以1986年文物普查 An Anyue County is a city of Ziyang, located in the central Sichuan Basin hilly region, east of Chongqing Tongnan County, Suining City in the north of the Central District, west of the city of Yanjiang District, Yuezhi County, south of Neijiang Dongxing District.
