A vehicle performance and exhaust gas monitoring system (VPEMS) design was discussed. The system is equipped with an engine management system (EMS) that has the interface capabilities of a variety of sensor system vehicles. This article describes the procedures used to validate diesel and gasoline engine data. The VPEMS prototype system tests include test rig testing and field testing of two vehicles equipped with various instruments. The test results show that each subsystem has reached a predetermined target, in which the deviation of the carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and nitrogen monoxide from the actual monitoring value is less than 11.5%, 8.1% and 17.7% respectively. Based on the experimental results, an example of a reference database for vehicle performance and tail gas related to time and space is given.
