Kuching, the capital city of Sarawak, Malaysia, takes water directly from the Sg Sarawak Kiri near the Batu Kitang water treatment plant, which is adjacent to the Sarawak base Upstream of the confluence of the Rim River and Sg Sarawak Kanan in Sarawak. Despite annual rainfall of nearly 4,000 mm in the region, water resources remain tense and in recent years the use of local resources has come to its limits due to the rapidly growing population and the development of industry and tourism. The ongoing construction of the Bengoh dam will play a very important role in the development of water in the city.
