Objective: To investigate the relationship between bone mass (bone mineral density, bone mineral content) and body weight, total body fat mass and muscle mass. Methods: A total of 287 healthy volunteers were enrolled in this study. Body mass, body weight, trunk, upper extremity and lower extremities were measured for fat mass, muscle mass and bone mass (BMD and bone mineral content). Partial correlation analysis was used to investigate the relationship between fat mass, muscle mass, body weight and total body mass (BMD and bone mineral content). RESULTS: Body weight was significantly associated with total body BMD (r = 0.692), total body mineral volume (r = 0.751), trunk density (r = 0.752), trunk volume (r = 0.707), upper limb density Mineral density (r = 0.690), lower extremity density (r = 0.690) and lower extremity mineral volume (r = 0.800) were significantly positively correlated with gender and age (P = 0.000). After controlling for gender and age, the amounts of muscle mass and fat mass in the whole body, trunk, upper extremity and lower extremity were significantly and positively correlated with the bone mineral density and bone mineral content at the corresponding sites (P <0.0001), r values were between 0.271 ~ 0.905, while the amount of muscle mass is more related to the amount of bone mineral density and bone mineral content. Conclusion: The body mass, trunk, upper extremity and lower extremity bone mass (BMD and bone mineral content) are positively correlated with the amount of muscle mass, fat mass and total body weight, and are more correlated with muscle mass.
