One of the five ports of commerce in modern history, Fuzhou, was inseparable from the massive demand for tea by the Western powers and the eagerness to embark on the tea trade in Fujian. Before and after the opening of Fuzhou, Christian missionaries played an important role. With the flourishing tea market in Fuzhou, the relationship between missionaries and tea trade has become more and more close. The tentacles, from the simple spread of gospel, extend to economic activities related to tea, and their identities have also undergone subtle changes. This article intends to discuss the relationship and influence between Western missionaries and the opening of Fuzhou Tea Port and the trade and commerce with tea industry in order to arouse the academic attention paid to the research on the relationship between missionaries and modern Chinese economic activities.
