The question “Who am I?” Has never been resolved in the black community. James Baldwin, as an excellent representative of African-American writers, understands the importance of black ethnic identity from a black perspective. His short story “The Brothers of Sonny” tells the story of a pair of Afro-American brothers who, due to differences in their own ideas and concepts, have long divided, do not understand each other, and finally understand each other and reintegrate. Most scholars mostly focus on Sunni, the protagonist of the novel, and analyze his experience to explain the hardships blacks seek in their journey. This article attempts to interpret the theme of the novel from the life experiences and psychological activities of the other protagonist “I”.
