电加工是直接利用电能对材料、另件进行尺寸加工的一种新工艺。从广义上说,它包括电解切削、电解磨削、电铸、电火花加工、电子束加工、离子束加工、激光加工、等离子体加工、超声波加工、放电成形、电磁成形等多个方面。随着科学技术的迅速发展,出现了许多机械切削难以加工的材料(如高强度、高硬度、高韧性、耐高温及高脆性的磁性材料等)和复杂形状的加工问题。采用电加工方法,则效率高,比较经济,而且加工精度高。所以最近得到了显著发展。
