After nearly a decade of rapid development, China’s steel industry has become a real steel power country on a large scale. In 2011, China’s crude steel output was 683 million tons, accounting for 46% of the global total of 1.49 billion tons. However, our country is far from a steel power. In terms of energy consumption indicators alone, the average energy consumption per tonne of steel consumed by the large and medium-sized steel companies included in the China Iron and Steel Association statistics is about 10% of the average energy consumption per ton of steel in Japan’s steel industry. Taking into account the relatively backward energy consumption indicators for small and medium-sized enterprises in our country, there is a gap of about 50% with the overall level of large and medium-sized steel enterprises. Therefore, if large and medium-sized and medium-sized and small-sized iron and steel enterprises take comprehensive consideration, the energy consumption level of China’s steel industry as a whole is about 20% lower than the international advanced level.
