The transmembrane protein gp36 of human immunodeficiency virus type 2 (HIV-2), which is cleaved from the outer membrane protein precursor, plays an important role in inducing virus-cell membrane fusion and syncytia formation [1]. Patients infected with HIV-1 or HIV-2 produce humoral immunity to viral structural proteins, including envelope surface glycoproteins and transmembrane proteins.
