甜叶菊原产于南美洲巴拉圭,是一种多年生菊科植物。甜叶菊茎叶中所含的糖甙甜度高、无毒性、味质佳,其甜度相当于蔗糖的200~300倍,热量仅为蔗糖的三百分之一。食用甜叶菊糖甙不仅可满足人们对甜味的需求,还可避免食用蔗糖带来的种种弊病。甜叶菊糖甙对糖尿病、小儿龋齿、肥胖症、高血压和心脏病等均有防治功能和辅助疗效,是制药、食品、饮料的较好甜味剂,是较为理想的新糖源。
Stevia produced in South America Paraguay, is a perennial Compositae.
