The Significance of “Joint Research on the History of Japan and China” The joint study of the history of Japan and China conducted with the support of the two governments was one of the outcomes of the meeting between Prime Minister Abe and President Hu Jintao in Beijing in October 2006. From 2001 to 2005, the accreditation of the Fuso edition of the New History Textbook and the 6 visits of the Japanese Prime Minister to the Yasukuni Shrine between 2001 and 2006 reduced the Sino-Japanese relations to an unprecedented magnitude in the four and a half years of Junichiro’s administration The combination of freezing, especially Japan’s application for membership in the United Nations in 2005 and the development of the East China Sea oil and gas fields have led to the anti-Japanese protest march around the Japanese Consulate General in Beijing, the Japanese Embassy in Shanghai and Hong Kong and the expansion to Chengdu.
