It is a product of the great social revolution in China in the early 20th century. Its birth marked the expansion of the power of the bourgeoisie in China and began to participate in the country’s political, social and economic life in an organized manner and was active in the historical arena. Based on the archival materials, this article makes a preliminary investigation of the birth of Suzhou Commerce Association in the late Qing Dynasty, its organization and management, the composition of its leading members and its major activities to illustrate its nature and function.
