从金元始,古杜尔伯特人以及成吉思汗季弟斡赤斤后裔,都曾在杜尔伯特草原生活过。当时藏传佛教,即喇嘛教也曾有所传播。但是喇嘛教真正在民同兴起,还是在明末清初之际。明朝嘉靖二十六年(1547),成吉思汗二弟哈萨尔第十五世孙博迪达喇的八子爱纳嘎游牧于嫩江中游左畔杜尔伯特草原,承袭了杜尔伯特部之名号。从此,喇嘛教格鲁派文化,从呼伦贝尔草原来到嫩江之滨。喇嘛教传入蒙古社会后,草原各部大兴修庙之风,从清初到民国年间,杜尔伯特草原共建喇嘛寺庙12所。现就杜尔伯特草原12所喇嘛寺庙的始建年代、人员机构,宗教生活、偶像崇拜、活佛转世等有关问题。作一简要考述,以求教于方家。
