The famous biologist, Pavlov, said: “You should learn to observe and observe. If you do not learn to observe, you will never be a scientist.” Li Shizhen, a great medical scientist of the Ming Dynasty in China, entered the mountains and forests many times in order to write the Compendium of Materia Medica. Collect herbs in the field and observe them carefully. In order to clarify the valuable medicinal material “White Snake”, Li Shizhen went to observe where the viper was produced. He not only climbed the high mountains and entered the snake hole, but also witnessed the python eating heather vines and people capturing it. He also watched the whole process of making python drugs. On the basis of comprehensive observations, he figured out the body shape and ecological habits of snakes, and wrote the “Biography of the Serpents”. Due to Li Shizhen’s on-site inspection of many plants and animal medicines in the “Compendium of Materia Medica,” he corrected many of his predecessors’ mistakes.
