North China was formed in the early 20th century as a geographically specific noun. This paper summarizes the spatial definition of the North China region by the disciplines of natural geography, history and geography, and proposes that the regional history should define the regional space. In addition to following the basic norms, it also needs to consider the time difference of the spatial range and the differences of the research objects. At the same time, from the perspective of North China’s regional economic history, this paper analyzes the evolution of the spatial extent of modern North China. It considers that the critical line of the region is getting less and less clear, overlapping and infiltration are the norm. From the perspective of regional economic history, this paper defines the North China Economic Zone as the three provinces of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, Shandong and Shanxi provinces, part of Henan Province and the Midwest of Inner Mongolia.
