This article aims to explore the significance of sub-maximal exercise oxygen consumption (VO_2submax) in the determination of cardiac function, and to provide a reference for the study of clinical cardiac function. Sub-maximal exercise oxygen consumption and functional aerobic metabolic damage rate (FAI) were studied in 127 normal subjects and 56 patients with heart disease. Results: The oxygen consumption at rest was significantly higher in patients with normal heart disease and heart function There was no significant difference among all levels. There was significant difference between VO_2submax and FAI after exercise. It shows that exercise heart function load test can reflect the heart reserve. Better than resting cardiac function index, with qualitative and relative quantitative superiority
