Objective To investigate the changes of pulse pressure in the elderly and its relationship with the risk factors of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Methods A total of 3850 elderly people were examined by physical examination. The pulse pressure was divided into four levels, which were ≤60mmHg, 6080mmHg, 80100mmHg and> 100mmHg respectively. The characteristics of blood pressure in each group and their relationship with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events were analyzed. Results As systolic blood pressure increased, pulse pressure increased accordingly (P <0.001). The increased prevalence of stroke and coronary heart disease was associated with increased pulse pressure (P <0.05). Conclusion Pulse pressure reflects the characteristics of blood pressure in the elderly and is related to the occurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events.
