CD36 is a transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the scavenger receptor family. Its widely distributed in the body, with a variety of ligands to play a combination of physiological and pathological effects. CD36 also participates in fat metabolism as a kind of fatty acid transporter. Its expression in hepatocytes and adipocytes is a key link in the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This article reviews the recent achievements in the study of the relationship between CD36 and NAFLD and its regulation of expression in NAFLD.
