  二、阅读理解(本题共30分,每小题2分)
  阅读下列材料,从每题所给的四个选项中,选中一个最佳答案。
  A
Jenny is a single mother of two children in rural Missouri. She worked full-time during the day and sold handcraft leather gifts on weekends. She also gave much of her free time to many charities and community projects.
Then one day Jenny received some shock-
ing news from her doctor. She had cancer, and it was spreading quickly. She had no enough money to put a cent in the medical treatments she would need. Soon, Jenny saw what she has always had: although she was not wealthy in material (物质), she already had the most valuable things on earth: a lot of people in her community and nearby areas teamed up to help her and her family.
Many people she had touched in caring ways showed appreciation for Jenny’s life. Jenny didn’t live to see the day when her bills were fully paid. However, she lived long enough to feel the love of those she had cheerfully served.
The spirits of love and gratitude became more and more when they are shared. Happiness is the result of sharing love and gratitude. Giving selflessly was a value that Jenny showed all her life, and her spirit of giving lived after her in those who knew and loved her.
All her life, Jenny had showed the truth of this simple rule: happiness will not come from material, wealth or fortune. Rather, it’s an attitude that comes from appreciating what we already have. We can find the happiness we seek if we will first share it with others. Then—
and only then—we will have the most valuable possessions on earth: love, happiness and increasing gratitude.

A gray sweater hung limply (松软无力地) on Bob’s empty desk, a reminder of the frustrated boy who had just followed his classmates from our third-grade room. Soon Bob’s parents, who had recently separated (分开), would arrive for a conference on his failing schoolwork and terrible behavior. Neither parent knew that I had visited the other.
Bob, an only child, had always been happy, cooperative and an excellent student. How could I convince his father and mother that his recent failing grades represented a broken-
hearted child’s reaction to his loved parents separation and divorce?
Bob’s mother entered and took one of the chairs I had placed near my desk. Soon the father arrived. Good! At least they came. A look of surprise and anger passed between them, and then they soon ignored each other.
As I gave a detailed account of Bob’s behavior and schoolwork, I prayed for the right words to bring these together, to help them see what they were doing to their son. But somehow the words wouldn’t come. Perhaps if they saw one of his dirty papers carelessly done.
I found a crumpled (压皱的) tear-stained sheet stuffed in the back of his desk, an English paper. Writing covered both sides—not the homework, but a single sentence scribbled (潦草地写) over and over. Silently I smoothed it out and gave it to Bob’s mother. She read it and then without a word handed it to her husband. He frowned. Then his face softened. He studied the scrawled words for a long time.
At last he folded the paper carefully, placed it in his pocket, and reached for his wife’s hand. She wiped the tears from her eyes and smiled up at him. My own eyes were filled with tears, but neither seemed to notice. He helped her with her coat and they left together.
In his own way God had given me the words to reunite that family. He had guided me to the sheet of yellow copy paper covered with the painful expression of a small boy’s troubled heart! The words, “Dear Mother ... Dear Daddy ... I love you ... I love you ... I love you.”
( )26. What did Bob use to be like?
  A. He used to behave badly.
  B. He used to be happy and cooperative.
  C. He used to dislike his parents.
  D. He used to be frustrated.
  ( )27. Before Bob’s parents arrived, the teacher _______.
  A. knew they would soon reunite
  B. decided to show them the tear-stained paper
  C. had found out the cause of Bob’s behavior
  D. was sure that they would come ( )28. What helped Bob’s parents see their influence on their son?
  A. A sheet of paper in his desk.
  B. A gray sweater.
  C. Tear strains on Bob’s papers.
  D. Bob’s broken heart.
( )29. What does the expression “smooth it out” mean?
  A. 把……打开
  B. 把……弄平
  C. 把……拿出来
  D. 把……叠起来
( )30. We can infer from the passage that _______.
  A. Bob’s parents called each other to come to school together
  B. the teacher found suitable words to reunite Bob’s family
  C. Bob’s love to his parents saved their marriage and the whole family
  D. a broken family might cause a child’s bad behavior and his shortage of love
