从上个世纪20年代后期开始,梁实秋便多次与左翼文人发生论争,特别是在人性与阶级性的问题上。抗日战争的全面爆发对中国现代文人的心态影响巨大,梁实秋便对自己战前所秉持的人性论作出重要的调整,特别是在“与抗战无关”的争论中,他部分地承认了文艺的阶级性,并赞成文艺以“全民”为表现的对象,与左派的文艺观念逐渐接近。实际上,抗战时期梁实秋等人与左派之间的对立与其说是在政治立场上,不如说主要是在文学功用观上。抗战初期梁实秋的自我调整无论原因何在,都对深入认识梁实秋具有重要的意义,同时也是认识那个时代的重要参考。
Since the late 1920s, Liang Shiqiu has repeatedly contested the left-wing literati, especially on issues of human nature and class. The full outbreak of the war of resistance against Japan exerted a tremendous influence on the mentality of modern Chinese literary men. Liang Shih-ch’iu made important adjustments to his theory of human nature pre-war, especially in the debate on “not related to the war” Class, and in favor of literature and art to “all ” as the performance of the object, and the left is gradually approaching the concept of literature and art. In fact, during the period of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the opposition between Liang Shih-ch’iu and others and the left was not so much a political standpoint as it was mainly on the concept of literary utility. Liang Shiqiu’s self-adjustment in the early days of the Anti-Japanese War no matter what the reason, are of great significance for in-depth understanding of Liang Shih-chiu and an important reference for understanding that era.
