Magnesium is an essential mineral element of the body, there are many extremely important physiological and biochemical effects. In recent years, as the incidence of cardiovascular disease increases, the relationship between magnesium and atherosclerosis (AS) has drawn increasing attention. AS is an arterial disease associated with dyslipidemia and changes in the composition of the blood vessel wall. The exact cause is unclear. Hyperlipemia, hypertension and heredity are considered as risk factors. A number of animal experiments show that magnesium has anti-atherosclerotic effects, the mechanism may be to reduce blood lipids, protect blood vessels, fight the generation of free radicals, reduce the production of lipid peroxides, affecting some hormone levels in the body, But for humans, there is little research in this area. Therefore, in-depth study of the biological effects of magnesium, open up new horizons for the prevention and treatment of human atherosclerosis
