In the heat treatment industry, people have been exploring ways to reduce production costs, save energy and reduce environmental pollution. Automotive industry will do a great job in this area, including: Significantly shorten the carburizing time to save energy and reduce production costs; the development of new quenchant to replace flammable, toxic mineral oil-based quenching agent. The use of non-flammable environmentally friendly water-based quenching agent (IQ) is one of the ways to achieve these goals. In addition, IQ can reduce carburization diffusion time by 50% or more. This article describes the results of a study conducted successfully by the University of São Paulo in Brazil, Combustol, Brazil, and the United States Intensive Quenching Company, which successfully achieved the above goal with a strong quenching process. In the long run, these results will be of great importance to the heat treatment industry.
