Recently it has been reported that certain seaweed polysaccharides are obtained from Sargassum. In 1974, Yamamoto reported that anti-tumor crude polysaccharides precipitated with ethanol from the water extract of Sargassum fuwellum could inhibit the growth of subcutaneously inoculated Sarcoma-180 in mice. On the one hand, Nakazawa also reported that the components rich in sulfonation (acid) from Sargassum horneri showed anti-tumor activity against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma in mice. We now obtain the polysaccharide component from the sargassum (Japanese name “Umitoranoo”) collected from Mt.
