莎士比亚在戏剧创作上成就巨大,但在戏剧理论方面却没有留下专著。通过一些散见于莎士比亚剧作中的戏剧理论,可以看出其戏剧思想分六个方面:一是关于戏剧与现实的关系,莎士比亚认为戏剧既要摹仿自然而又不能机械地照搬。二是关于戏剧创作,莎士比亚认为剧本是关键人物应典型化。三是莎士比亚创造了“舞台想像说”,主张观众运用想像去理解剧情。四是关于舞台表演艺术,莎士比亚强调演员的“意象”。五是关于五角艺术,他认为丑角不仅能提供笑料,而且常充当作者的代言人。六是莎士比亚提倡戏剧语言民族化、大众化。
Shakespeare made great achievements in dramatic writing, but left no monograph in the theory of drama. Through some dramatic theories scattered in the Shakespearean dramas, we can see that there are six aspects of his dramatic ideas: one is about the relation between drama and reality, and Shakespeare thinks that drama should imitate nature and not copy mechanically. The second is about the dramatic creation, Shakespeare think the script is the key figure should be typical. Third, Shakespeare created the “stage imagination,” advocating the audience to use imagination to understand the story. Fourth, on stage performing arts, Shakespeare emphasizes the “image” of the actor. Fifth, on the art of the pentacle, he believes that the harlequin can not only provide jokes, but also often act as the author’s spokesperson. Sixth, Shakespeare advocated drama language nationalization and popularization.
