《红楼梦》是一部代表中国封建社会缩影的文学巨著,翻译这部巨著对译者来说是一个极大的挑战。本文以《红楼梦》第三回的两英译本为例,从“异化”与“归化”的角度对杨宪益夫妇和霍克斯的译本进行对比分析,试图探索两个译本在语言转化,诗词的翻译,以及文化输出等方面的差异。 A Dream of Red Mansions, a literary masterpiece representing the epitome of China’s feudal society, is a tremendous challenge to the translator. Taking the two English versions of the third chapter of A Dream of Red Mansions as an example, this article compares the translations of Yang Xianyi and Hawkes from the perspective of “alienation ” and “naturalization ”, trying to explore the relationship between the two versions in language Translation, poetry translation, and cultural output differences.
