Objective To create and evaluate an animal model of vertebral bone defects that can be used to perform biomechanical and histomorphological studies of vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty perfusions. Methods 40 adult fresh goat vertebral bodies were randomly divided into 5 groups with 8 in each group. The vertebral bodies were implanted with vertebral bodies of different diameters in the direction perpendicular sagittal plane The strength and stiffness of each vertebra were tested on a material testing machine. Results The results showed that the strength and stiffness of vertebral bodies with different diameters and diameters decreased with the increase of defect diameter. The strength and stiffness of the vertebral bodies in the group of Φ4 mm defect were significantly different from those in the normal control group (P <0.01). CONCLUSION: The deficient Φ4 mm goat vertebral body model is an in vitro animal model that has hitherto been suitable for biomechanical and histomorphological studies of perfusion agents for vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty.
