Objective To compare the bone mineral density (BMD) of Han, Manchu and Korean nationalities in Dandong, and to understand the prevalence and related risk factors of osteoporosis (OP). Methods Peripheral bone mineral density (BMD) was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DTX-200) manufactured by Osteometer Medi Tech in the United States. From August to December 2010, 2203 healthy people from Manchu, Han and Korean were tested for non-stressed Forearm ulnar radius distal bone density, every 10 years of age, the results of a statistical analysis, at the same time fill in the osteoporosis-related risk factors questionnaire. Results The peak values of bones of Manchu, Han and Korean nationalities in Dandong were 0.563 ± 0.076 g / cm 2, 0.573 ± 0.085 g / cm 2 and 0.518 ± 0.100 g / cm 2, respectively, 49 years old, 30 to 39 years old, 30 to 39 years of age three age groups. After BMD peaked, it gradually decreased with age, reaching the lowest in 80-year-old group. The prevalence rates of osteoporosis of Han, Manchu and Korean people over the age of 40 were no difference (P> 0.05), which were 11.9%, 10.7% and 9.8% respectively. There was a positive correlation between Manchu OP occurrence and age (P <0.05). Han Chinese OP occurrence was positively correlated with sex, female OP was higher (P <0.05). Korean OP was positively correlated with age and long-term vegetarianism (P <0.05). Conclusion The investigation of bone mineral density in different ethnic groups in Dandong helps to establish the diagnostic criteria for osteoporosis among the three ethnic groups in Manchu, Han and Korean in Dandong, and provides the basis for prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and its complications.
