Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2), a subtype of the phospholipase A2 superfamily, not only hydrolyses platelet-activating factor but also hydrolyzes phospholipids formed during the oxidation of low-density lipoproteins to produce lysolecithin and oxidizes Free fatty acids. Study confirmed that Lp-PLA2 involved in the formation of atherosclerosis, and plaque instability is closely related. Lp-PLA2 activity in patients with ischemic stroke was significantly increased, and associated with neurological deficits, suggesting that Lp-PLA2 may not only be an independent risk factor for ischemic stroke, but also a preliminary assessment of prognosis. Lp-PLA2 inhibitor development and gene therapy, to delay the progress of atherosclerosis, stable plaque provides the possibility.
