吕胜中,中央美术学院教授,中国“85美术新潮”时期的代表性艺术家之一,早年他以剪纸为媒介,以“小红人”的形象传达中国传统美术在现代蜕变历程中的力量,并在多年的创作中一直以“纸”为媒介探讨艺术呈现的多种可能性。2003年,吕胜中的作品《山水书房》获邀参加第52届威尼斯双年展中国馆项目。2005年,在吕胜中的主持下,中央美术学院成立实验艺术系,打破了传统教学体系中以具体的媒介形式划分专业的传统,实验艺术系偏重培养学生灵活恰当运用各种形式语言和材料媒介的能力,将综合材料、装置、影像等多种艺术形式植入课程,探索实验艺术的学院化教育模式。
