张曼君近年来作品很多,品质很高,得过很多大奖,不愧为一个“新世纪杰出导演”。更为显眼的是,她的导演创作涉及剧种很广,赣南采茶戏《山歌情》和《八子参军》、湘剧《李贞还乡》、昆剧《一片桃花红》、京剧《武则天》、小剧场京剧《马前泼水》、京剧汉剧“两下锅”《水上灯》、广东山歌剧《山稔果》、豫剧《洛神》、蒲剧《山村母亲》、越剧《梅龙镇》、湖北花鼓戏《十二月等郎》、川剧《欲海狂潮》、评剧《凤阳情》、黄梅戏《妹娃要过河》、晋剧《大红灯笼》、河北梆子《晚雪》、秦腔《花儿声声》……在这方面大概没有一个中国导演能与之匹敌。
