Objective To understand the effect of mixed benzene (benzene, toluene, xylene) on the health status of workers in a printing factory in Shenzhen from 2007 to 2010 and to explore the reasons. Methods A retrospective survey was conducted to collect a total of 1 268 occupational health examination results of mixed-benzene workers at a printing plant in Shenzhen from 2007 to 2010. The results of the above-mentioned examination were also analyzed. Results In 2007-2010, the detection rate of neurasthenic symptom, abnormal rate of blood and the abnormal rate of alanine aminotransferase in serum of workers exposed to mixed benzene showed a decreasing trend with statistical significance (χ2 = 28.2, 9.5 , 13.6, P <0.05 or P <0.01). Conclusion The implementation of basic occupational health services has played a positive role in the health of mixed printing workers in a printing plant.
