Since the United States economy emerged from the recovery from the worst post-war economic crisis at the end of 1982, the United States has experienced an expansion of 95 months, setting the world record for the longest sustained period of economic expansion in peacetime. However, the economic expansion process in this longer period is extremely unstable and extremely imbalanced. The economic expansion has suffered repeated ups and downs and has been on the verge of recession for several times. However, it has avoided the crisis several times to achieve the long-term expansion of the “soft-laden” U.S. economy and its new phenomenon. The new features have brought forward the traditional economic cycle and crisis theory challenge. Analyzing and studying the characteristics and deformation of the expansion of the U.S. economic cycle in the 1980s is of great significance for us to understand and grasp the development trend of the U.S. economy and the Western economy.
