土的比表面积是了解土的物理化学性质、判断粘土矿物类型以及半定量地测定某些粘土矿物含量的一个重要指标,测定土壤的比表面积也是鉴定粘土矿物的一种手段。因此,要求测定比表面积的部门越来越多。测定比表面积的方法很多,目前国内外普遍采用的是极性有机分子吸附法。《土工试验规程》推荐的“乙二醇吸附法”和“甘油吸附法”均属于这一类。该两种方法的共同优点是设备简单、操作简便、再现性好;缺点是平衡时间过长。为克服这一缺点,在乙二醇法的基础上,国外首先使用了乙二醇乙醚法。
