1997年全国发生特大恶性交通事故64起, 因超速行驶引发的有25起,占当年特大恶性交 通事故总数的39.1％;1988年1-6月,全国发生 交通事故15.2万起,造成3.4万人死亡,16.4万 人受伤,直接经济损失8.8亿元,其中因超速行驶 造成的事故死亡人数占事故总死亡总人数的 13.5％。据山西省2002年道路交通事故统计分 析,在机动车驾驶员违章事故指数表中,超速行 驶的数量是1777起,占总数的9.05％;因超速行 驶发生交通事故引起的死亡数为419人,占总数 的11.5％;受伤人数1396人,占总数的9.06％;致 死率为22309,死亡危险性系数为0.2358。在机动 车驾驶员肇事死亡超过2000人的8种违章中, 因超速行驶肇事最多,发生4.4万起,造成9672 人死亡,占事故总数的6.56％和11.26％。另外超 速引起的事故大多数是重特大事故,山西省2002 年违章特大事故形态次数统计表显示:因超速行 驶导致的重特大事故居各种违章之首。
