英语委婉语是人类社会发展至今使用语言的一种普遍现象,存在于不同的语言环境与社会分割面之中。人们经常使用委婉语是为了避免无意冒犯他人话语的出现和各种令人不愉快事情的发生,是人们相互交流洽谈中语言使用的重要手段。本文介绍了委婉语的忌讳功能、礼貌功能、掩饰功能,引用实例分析英语委婉语在语用功能方面体现的各种形式,以便了解和掌握英语委婉语语用功能的重要性。
English euphemism is a common phenomenon in the use of language in the development of human society so far. It exists in different linguistic environments and social divisions. People often use euphemisms in order to avoid inadvertently offensive to other people’s speech and the occurrence of various unpleasant things. It is an important means for people to communicate and discuss language use in negotiations. This paper introduces the taboo, politeness and disguise functions of euphemism, and analyzes various forms of English euphemism in terms of pragmatic functions with reference to examples in order to understand and grasp the importance of pragmatic functions of English euphemism.
