对苄基甲苯的致癌性和致突变性研究的结果表明:Ames试验、小鼠骨髓多染性红细胞微核试验和小鼠精子畸变试验均为阴性;对小鼠的诱癌试验结果肿瘤发生率实验组虽高于对照组,但经统计学处理(X~2检验)均无显著性差异(P>0.05);肿瘤的潜伏期、肿瘤的特异性和多发性,实验组与对照组相比亦无显著性差异,故初步认为苄基甲苯对小鼠无明显的致癌作用。
