Survivin is a new member of apoptosis protein family. It is highly expressed in skin malignancies, precancerous skin diseases, and some benign keratinocyte hyperproliferative skin diseases. Survivin is involved in the development of skin diseases by inhibiting multiple functions of apoptosis, regulating cell division and participating in tumor angiogenesis. Tumor suppressor gene p53 induces tumor cell apoptosis by combating the anti-apoptotic activity of Survivin protein. Detecting Survivin and p53 gene expression in cancer tissue can provide reference for the diagnosis and prognosis of cancer patients. Targeted therapy of Survivin gene and Survivin combined with p53 gene will open up new avenues for the treatment of skin cancer.
