北魏时有两支匈奴人分别被称作“西河胡”与“河西胡”,因二者名称相近,易为混淆,且事关民族地理分布问题,故在此特为一辨。 北魏时的西河有两指,一是指北魏所设的西河郡(治兹氏城,今山西汾阳县),如太宗永兴二年,诏将军周观率众诣西河、离石,镇抚山胡(《魏书·太宗纪》)。一是指河曲以北的黄河。穆帝三年,以击白部、刘虎之功,求得句注陉以北地区,其“东接代郡,西连西河、朔方,方数百里”(《魏书·序纪》)。
There were two Huns in the Northern Wei Dynasty called “Xihehu” and “Hexihu”, respectively. They were particularly distinguished because of their similar names, confusion and their geographical distribution. When the Northern Wei Dynasty, there were two meanders to the Western River. The first refers to the Xihe County (Gov’t City, now Fenyang County, Shanxi Province) set up by the Northern Wei Dynasty. Fu Shan (“Weizu Taizong Ji”). One refers to the Yellow River north of the meander.
