One day, my grandpa found a job at the zoo.
一天,我爷爷在动物园找了一份工作｡
“As you know, school holidays start soon. It is our busiest time,” said the manager from the zoo. “Our African gorilla is the animal star at the zoo, but he’s very ill. Without it the zoo will lose a lot of money.”
“你知道,再过不久就要放假了,将会是我们最忙碌的时候｡” 动物园经理说,“非洲大猩猩是这儿的动物明星,但它病得很重｡ 要是没有它,动物园将失去大把的钱｡”
The manager from the zoo continued, “So we want you to be our gorilla.”
动物园经理继续说道:“因此我们想要你扮成大猩猩｡”
“You want me to be a monkey!” Grandpa shouted.
“你想要我扮成一只猴子!” 爷爷大叫｡
“ Yes,” said the manager. “We’ve borrowed a special suit from Hollywood. No-one will know the difference. And we’ll pay you one thousand dollars a week.”
“是的,”经理说,“我们已经向好莱坞借了一套特殊服装,没人看得出差别｡并且,我们将支付你每周1000美元的薪水｡”
“One thousand dollars!” Grandpa shouted again. “Show me the gorilla suit. I’ll start right now!”
“1000美元!” 爷爷又叫出了声,“给我大猩猩服,我现在就开始工作!”
On the first day of the holidays, lots of children rushed to see the gorilla.
放假第一天,许许多多孩子跑来看大猩猩｡
I went too, and found that no-one noticed Grandpa was a fake.
我也去了动物园,发现没人注意到爷爷是“假冒猩猩”｡
Grandpa the gorilla started his show. He grabbed a rope from a tree and swung from one side to the other.
“大猩猩”开始表演了｡他抓住树上垂下来的绳子,荡起秋千来｡
Suddenly Grandpa the gorilla lost his grip on the rope. He flew straight over the fence, and landed in the lion’s den.
突然,“大猩猩”没抓牢绳子,直直地飞过了栅栏,掉在狮子洞里了｡
A big lion walked towards him. Grandpa the gorilla froze with terror!
一只巨大的狮子向他走来｡“大猩猩”吓得呆住了!
I closed my eyes and waited for the lion to eat Grandpa the gorilla.
我紧闭眼睛,等待着狮子吃掉“大猩猩”｡
But the lion didn’t. Grandpa beat his chest loudly and ran away.
但狮子没这么做｡爷爷使劲地拍着胸膛,落荒而逃｡
Later, at home, Grandpa told me what had happened.
后来,爷爷在家里把事情的经过告诉了我｡
As the lion walked towards him, Grandpa was too frightened to move.
当狮子向他走来时,爷爷吓得一动也不敢动｡
Then the lion sniffed him and said, “Don’t worry, mate. It’s my first day here too.”
狮子对着他闻了闻,说道:“别担心,伙计｡今天也是我在这儿工作的第一天｡”

真是有惊无险啊!害爷爷白紧张了一场｡不过大家到动物园参观时,一定要注意安全,文明参观,万一像“大猩猩”一样,掉进了真狮子的洞里,那就危险啦!
