The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber, is a representative short story of Hemingway since it clearly embodies hisprinciple of creation. To illustrate the unequal relationship between the hero Macomber and the heroine Margot, this paper employs Burtons (1980) Discourse Framework theory to analyze the distribution, classification and patt of these two characterschal-lenging moves. On the basis of the dialogue analysis, the author attempts to analyze the patts of their challenging moves, which can reflect Macomber is in a more inferior position in marriage than his wife. And the reasons for this are Margot not only holds many challenging moves but also seizes the speaking rights in communication.
