The image of the mother’s “big food” in The Woman Warrior by Chinese American writer Maxine Hong Kingston has always been controversial. From a symbolic point of view, and combined with the study of the immigrant experiences of Chinese families in the United States, the article shows that the “Great Food” is the mother’s survival strategy under the dual oppression of both sexes and races. It is her courage as a Chinese woman to deal with all kinds of misery and Symbol of wisdom. The image of mother is a powerful subversion of stereotyped oriental women in Western colonial discourse.
