Atomic weight is the weight of an atom. Since the weight of the atom is insignificant, if it is expressed in units of daily use, it must use extremely small numbers. For example, taking the lightest hydrogen atom, its weight is 0.000,000,000,000,000,000,000,001,673 grams. It is extremely inconvenient to express the weight of an atom with such a small number, and therefore a specific unit is used to express the atomic weight so that the lightest atom can represent its atomic weight by a number larger than one. At first, the lightest atom, the weight of hydrogen atoms, was used as a unit of atomic weight. Later, it was more convenient to use oxygen as the basis for calculating the atomic weight, because oxygen is easier to combine with other elements to make up compounds than hydrogen, and studying these compounds can determine the atomic weight of other elements. It is now adopted
