橄榄是我县四大名果之一,同柑桔、荔枝、龙眼齐名于中外。鲜果除生食外,更宜加工制成“五香橄榄”、“蜜饯橄榄”等传统出口商品。我省橄榄栽培面积冠全国,而闽侯县的橄榄在省内又是首屈一指的。据一九五七年统计,全省年产鲜果十六万担,其中闽侯占七万担。但经十年浩劫,产量猛跌,且有很多优良品种,濒临绝种。为了摸清我县橄榄品种资源,尽快恢复发展我县橄榄生产,我所组织有关人员分别深入到云尾、白沙、上街等公社和甘蔗镇进行调查。初步
