Introduction and Method The responses of immunoglobulin G(IgG) and its subclasses IgG1, 2, 3, 4, have been reported in some human parasitic diseases, eg. filariasis and cysticercosis(Hussain et al 1987, Short et al 1990). In our current studies, IgG subclass-specific monoclonal antibodies were used in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) to investigate responses in both cystic and alveolar hydatid patients(CHD and AHD), particularly during follow-up cases who underwent either surgery and/or albendazole chemotherapy. Diagnostic antigens used were antigen B(AgB), protoscolex extract of Echinococcus granulosus and multiloeularis(EgP and EmP) and crude E. g and E. m cystic fluid(EgCF and EmCF) from infected sheep and cotton rats. Sera tested from, 56 Chinese CHD cases confirmed by surgery and pathology, 33 normal and two cysticercosis sera from China, Libya, Indian or Mexico, 24 CHD and 18 AHD sera(individual or sequential bleeding) from the patients after treatment.
