As one of the initiators of the “MK Woodcut Research Society” and “Wild Wind Painting Society,” Zhang Ming Cao was a practitioner of many early emerging woodcut movements who listened to Mr. Lu Xun’s teaching many times. However, many literary studies of the emerging woodcut motions have little to do with his account. Instead, his early career in the emerging woodcut movement was less well known. Today, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the emerging printmaking movement, we review the artist’s artistic experience in the 1930s and 1940s and provide vivid historical materials for studying the left-wing art activities of that era in Shanghai and southern Zhejiang.
