After joining the European Union in 2004, the Czech economy grew at a high speed and kept narrowing the gap with developed countries in Western Europe. However, the export-oriented development model has made the economic situation in the Czech Republic extremely vulnerable to the external environment. Affected by the international financial crisis and the euro zone debt crisis, the Czech economy fell into recession twice. Of course, the austerity measures that the government has put in place to reduce the budget deficit are another important reason for the second recession in the Czech economy. From the second half of 2013, the Czech economy has come out of recession and started to recover. Exports, consumption and investment have simultaneously boosted economic growth.
