Britain is one of the countries that embarked on the path of agricultural marketization earlier in Western Europe, which is related to the inheritance of land by British peasants. Medieval Britain inherited the habit of indivisible list. When the son inherits the land of the family, he must reach a “maintenance agreement” with the parent who withdraws from the field of production. The cost of alimony incurred by the successor for inheritance is substantially the same as the cost of land he bought in the market for the same amount of land. This shows that in the Middle Ages, the transfer of land within British peasant families largely reflected market behavior.
