Objective To investigate the role of phosphorylated STAT3 and MAPK in the development of SCC by detecting the expression of phosphorylated STAT3 and MAPK in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and normal skin tissues. Methods The expressions of p-STAT3 and p-MAPK in 30 cases of squamous cell carcinoma and 10 cases of normal skin tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry, and the normal skin tissues were taken as control. The relationship between them was also analyzed. Results The positive rate of p-STAT3 in SCC tissues was 86.67%, while the positive staining rate in normal skin tissues was 0.00%, which was significantly lower than that in SCC tissues. The positive rates of p-MAPK in normal tissues and SCC tissues were 0.00% and 13.33 %,The difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion The phosphorylation of STAT3 plays an important role in the development of SCC. Over-activation of STAT3 may result in the continuous proliferation of tumor cells in SCC, but no significant effect of p-MAPK.
